Oris Goes to America…again…but online
This time last year, I was in the US. In Utah, to be precise, to which I had been invited by the Sundance Film Festival.
It was cold, cold, cold and as with all film festivals, it took some time to understand just how the mix of programmes work. I can’t say that I succeeded before the end of the festival. I was invited again this year — but as you know, coronavirus has happened, so it’s a virtual thing. Every day, I wake up, put on my laptop, open the festival.sundance.org tab and go through the programme. The difference in time means I am awake quite late and then struggle with the premieres taking place at dawn. So jetlag without getting in a jet, eh?

I have seen about a dozen films since the festival begun on 28th January. I’ll be writing about a bunch of them over the next few days. Unfortunately, these are not films you can see at the moment. Unless you are in the US, you might never see any of them. Still, there are some you’ll get the chance to see. I am betting you’d see Judas and the Black Messiah, which gets its debut tomorrow, 2nd February. You might also see Prisoners of the Ghostland, the bonkers picture starring the is-he-crazy Nicholas Cage — perhaps on some VOD platform.
In any case, come along, come along, come along.
