Viggo Mortensen’s directing debut follows an old cantankerous man who is unable to be nice even in his old age.

The angry racist old man trope is tired and tired. It hasn’t quite been the rage over the past few years, though, and one imagines there is a reason for this. But why Mortensen couldn’t quite pick another project to write about and direct especially at this time is a mystery.

Or maybe it isn’t; maybe it is what he could dream up and David Cronenberg wasn’t around, save for his cameo in the film. But he is Viggo and as such he was granted the closing spot of the festival. Hopefully, he finds better material for his sophomore.
